Tolle Scandinavian Motorcycles AB - Chopper Forks

Tolle made his first triple tree back in 1979. It was made out of steel and mounted on his BSA with a 17” fork. Back then, nobody really knew anything about trail. Some bikes were sluggish, other wobbled, and a few behaved good, but nobody knew why. The Swedish authorities had stated an arbitrary maximum fork angle of 35 degrees, which made it impossible for most choppers to get approved by the authorities Tolle analyzed the situation. He started to measure the angle of the steering head, the steering axle, and the front axle. Tolle decided that he wanted a 50 mm trail on his chopper and started to do the maths. In order to get the wanted trail he needed an angled triple tree of 7,21 degrees, a steering head at 43 degrees and a fork ankle of about 50 degrees.
